A Boring Update on DebŐs Health
Deb met with her oncologist yesterday and got the results of her
regular six-month CAT scan. It's clean, and Dr. Lange found nothing to worry
about in his examination. We spent most of the visit chatting about our
respective Hawaii trips and about politics. (Dr. Lange has one of those
credit-card size clocks that counts down towards Bush leaving office. I'm not
sure how he knew we'd be amused by this. Maybe we just radiate liberal waves.)
It has now been more than four years since the GIST tumor was
removed, and more than 10 since the breast cancer. It's easy for me to keep
track because the GIST coincided with the build-up to the Iraq invasion. I
remember being in the emergency room for a post-release-from-the-hospital false
alarm when Bush gave Saddam 48 hours to get out of town. So every time the
media says something about how long we've been in Iraq, I know how long it's
been since the GIST.
On the way out of Beth Israel we spotted a coffee mug that says:
"I didn't survive cancer just to die of stress." Maybe we'll pick one
up if it's still there in January when Deb has her next appointment.
