Netted in clear tubes,
Postsurgical Deb dozes,
Radiating peace.

Deb had a good day yesterday. Even though she has a
huge incision, she feels much better than she did
before surgery. Despite a partially collapsed left
lung, she breathes easier that when the tumor was
pressing on her diaphragm. And has more mental acuity.
The physical therapist was amazed that Deb was willing
to get up and be walked to the room door and back.
"Tomorrow we'll go jogging," she said as she was
leaving. For several hours afterward Deb sat up in her
chair.

Deb's been diligently going her breathing exercises,
even though they make her cough, which is painful. She
says, "There's nothing else to do." I explained that
moaning and complaining would be a fulltime job for
most people, but she didn't get it.

If you want to send cards, Deb is in the Room 623,
Deaconess Clinical Center, 1 Deaconess Road, Boston.
She'll probably be there until early next week --
unless she and the physical therapist really do go
jogging today.
